Can Someone Clarify?

Alright, this is no big deal, but would someone be able to explain what the difference is between a c10 and an r10?
I thought that the half ton chevy's up to '86 were c10, and then they changed it to r10 in '87. Is this correct? Does the model matter? (Custom Deluxe, Silverado, Scottsdale)
So what exactly is my truck if it's a 1987 Half ton custom deluxe? Sorry, just pondering...

There is no difference only 87-91 R/V had the same body style as the 81-86 models. In 88 the new Chevy GMC trucks took on the C/K prefix

You can't help but ask yourself... Why if you have built a vehicle very similar in design for over ten years, when you come up with a totally new design (virtually every part is different) does it get the "old number" system & the old one gets changed? I guess just to make it difficult trying to buy parts, the guy that said "Here's what we'll do....Call the new one a C/K & the old one, ah...well...")
Must be laughing is full off every day!

well, yea, that is pretty funny and maybe true...but here's my take on it. they wanted the new trucks to be called "C/K" because that's what people were use to. people knew these trucks as C/K's. but they were gonna be carrying over the old body style for one more year (or a few more in the case of the HD's and the Blazer/Jimmy/Suburban...so they needed a name because calling them the same thing WOULD get confusing...so "R/V" came about...

So really when people are saying c/k, it's technically r/v?

if it's an '87, yes. if not, then no, it's a C/K.

After 86 the answer is yes. GM knew they were going to change everything over to the 88 body style but I don't think they thought it would take 4 years to get it all changed over. I read somewhere the big deal was the weak frames and they wanted to get it right before stretching out to the 4 doors.

O.K. gentlemen answer me this. I love the older Chevy trucks. I recently purchased a '74 pickup. Now as I read these great forums I'm learning alot from you guys slowly but surely. I need to know what exactly it is that I'm driving. On the Sides it says Custom Deluxe/10. I have six lug wheels. Now I do have a 4" lift on it but each set of leaf springs has 7 leafs to it. Don't quite know if all this helps but I hope somebody can tell me. It's a shame this kinda question commin from a grown man, Don't ya think?

74 K10
K meaning 4WD
10 meaning 1/2 ton
The 3/4 and 1 tons were 8 lug

As for the weak frames in the newer trucks, they still didn't have it right. I have seen allot of the 88 & up style trucks with broken frames. Rebuilt a few of them too.
