O2 Sensor?
« on: May 12, 2008, 08:59:28 pm »
When I pulled my manifolds off to put headers on my '87 R10, I had the pull off the O2 sensor. I didn't think I would have one, but I guess I did. (I guess it does make sense seeing as though I have TBI).
I never got a new one for my headers, but I can't really tell if I even need it or not. My exhaust smells pretty bad, so I guess it's possible that I'm burning too rich/lean without the sensor. I might be burning oil though.

What do you guys think? I've been driving it for about a week without the O2 sensor with no problems.

It is going to run rich and will never go into closed loop without the O2 sensor. You need to install an O2 sensor bung in the collector and reconnect it.

02 sensor went out on my 90 c1500, mileage went from 18mpg to maybe 10mpg.  Black smoke and soot was practically oozing out the tailpipes.  Put a new one in, and back to 18mpg and no black smoke or soot.

Dang! I think I even noticed that my gas was going faster than usual...

Thanks for the advice/info.
