Hello, the defroster on my 87 R30 doesnt put out enough airflow even w/ the switch on high. The problem seems to be that the air is coming out the a/c vents just as much as the defroster ducts. Is there a door somewhere inside thats not operating?
 Also, the blower motor speed seems slow to me, but its getting the full 12V on high and the ground is good. Just changed it today, no difference. Is this the way it was designed from the factory?

my 85k10 seems the same way, i dont get a lot from the defroster and i get quite a bit from the ac vents, im gonna check when i get a chance but i dont think the vents are closing off right, i figure maybee leaky vacuum controls

Smokin, I figured it out this morning, heres what to do: Take off the glove compartment door and the a/c duct coming off the box. There you can see the door that switches the a/c and heat. Mine had a pen jammed in it keeping it from closing all the way. That was the good news. The bad news is that the plastic piece connecting the door to the actuator broke from the pressure. Since the a/c on my truck doesnt work anyway I cheated and closed off the a/c opening w/ duct tape lol.
 So now I have more airflow up to the defroster ducts but to me it still doesnt seem powerful enough. Compared to my GM car, the high speed on my truck is like second to high on my car. Still gotta figure that one out. -Eric

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about mine.  Even my S-10 blasted way more air than my fullsize.  I feel like this is an episode of Home Improvement, we're all like "We need...MORE POWER AHW AHW AHW!!!"

I had an 86 K10 with the same problem.  I never fixed it though because I wrecked it about a month after buying it.  My 87 doesn't have this problem, but it doesn't have AC either.  Must only be problems in trucks with luxuries like air conditioning.

Make sure the vacuum hose is hooked up to the reserve canister in the engine compartment and that the reservior has manifold vacuum at the other end of it. If not it will not switch properly or at all.

Yea,the little plastic piece connecting the door to the cable thing was busted, i screwed a little metal piece of erector set the piece to hold it togther.
IT WORKED!
I have like 8 other chevys in my yard but none with AC to steal the part from
