windshield replacement

I"m going to replace my windshield next and repair the little bit of rust that is along the bottom corners...my question is should i use seam sealer when putting the new glass in and how would i do this?

You should use urethane. Honestly if you've never done it you should have a glass guy come out and do it for you. Most places around here will install it for $100 bucks cash.

A local glass shop quoted me $175 installed for a windshield..thats total, for the windshield (w/ antenna) and installation, including connecting the antenna and  installation/reinstallation of the rear-view mirror (if I had it).

anyone have a how to on how to take the glass out? i want the windshield outta my 80 it's brand new as to the 79s orignial

If you have the locking strip remove the clip at the bottom and pull out the zipper. Then you need one of these to cut through the urethane.



Then say your prayers and try to remove it from the seal.

No you really don't need that tool...windshield and rubber usually come right out. Just start pushing the rubber out at one of the top corners and work your way around the top to the sides. It's a piece of cake after that. It really is simple on these trucks.  Took 5 min to pull mine out and 10 min to put it in, more time due to installing the rubber strip.

If it was factory it won't have urethane, if a glass company has replaced it and they require urethane to be used, you WILL need that tool.

Yeah he will need that tool if it's a brand new windshield like he said it was, meaning it's a replacement windshield and if it was installed by a glass company will be urethaned in.

one's still factory, one looks new on the other truck... i just want the new one. the tints not faded, it looks new and not old.. etc.... what about the rear is that the same'?

Rear isn't urethaned in.  You can roll the lip out on the inside and press out to get it out.  May want someone on the outside to help catch it, but if you go slow it should stay in there.  Just remove the top section and pick it up when done.
