she's gone...
« on: July 20, 2008, 12:24:04 am »
well, after a lot of procrastinating and putting it off, i finally sold the old girl today.  i traded her for a 1991 Chevy Silverado K1500 extended cab.  it has a great running 350 and a newly-rebuilt 700R4 with a shift kit.  i'm gonna miss my baby like mad but i needed something with enough room for the family.  even after i put loads of money into my GMC, she's still just a regular cab.  the Silverado doesn't look as good as the GMC but mechanically it's great.  anyhow, i'll still be around, gotta drool over the classics when i can ya know!

And your new one is a '91..any '91 GM product has a chance of reaching sickeningly high mileage without any internal engine problems, if they were taken care of..My uncle's '91 4 door s10 blazer he used on a rural mail route has 312k miles on it, doesn't burn a drop of oil, transmission and transfercase are still tight..the suspension, body, and interior are SHOT though, so its been retired..

Also, that chevy truck that made it to 1 million miles on the original engine was a '91...

Family space or not, I'd have to keep my truck..Thats what the bed is for..throw a shell on it, bolt a couple seats down in the bed and attach some seatbelts..get the kids to feel like they're riding in a limo with the divider window between the "driver" and them  ;D

Good luck with it, hope ya got one of the good ones..

I'm finding that out with my '91 GMC Sub.  She's got around 180k on it and the only time I put oil in it is when I change it.  She's running strong.

oh i hear ya.  this truck has 179k on the motor and everything but the tranny, the tranny has about 1,000 on it.  my friend's '91 (i'll post pics later, that truck is basically restored) is at around 300k or so.  it's had a new motor and tranny but they never went out...my friend just felt it was "time" to replace them...but then again, he basically restored the thing...the fake chrome on the grille peeled...he replaced it...the headlights faded, he replaced them...the wheels started peeling, he had them refinished...you get the idea...it's a gorgeous Silverado...

good luck with the truck, as you may know I also sold mine so I could buy a newer one, even though I miss the classic, this one I just get in, crank it up(first try, gotta love fuel injection!) turn on the ac and radio, pull the slushbox into gear and go, at 70 it rides like a dream, and its 4x4 so im a lot more confident while driving pastures  ;D my grandpa, 82 years young, came to me and said look, you need to sell these junkers (lol direct quote :P )and get a newer truck, and at first I was relentful, then came to my senses, I dont have the time to restore my truck, and need something now, heck, at this rate it would be another year before steppy was even in primer! hope you dont mind my rambling, but remember, sometimes you gotta change, I didnt want to, now im glad i did! and i can always find another squarebody if i ever catch the fever again  ;)

I wound up getting a 2000 chevy single cab shortbed 4.3 v6 <<(not that exciting but it works) auto tranny, 4x4 black on black, its a pretty sharp truck when cleaned up, This black paint is a PITA to keep clean, but its well worth it,this thing is purdy! drove it to town today and everyone was lookin at it, I thought maybe I had a flat or something, then remembered I wasnt in my old 3/4 ton, that maybe I was ACTUALLY getting noticed! WHOA!! this is weird, I was used to only getting noticed by cops lmao  ;D I know its a v6 but I think im gonna put a single in dual out flowmaster on it, anyone got a video of one? or a better sounding suggestion? oh and louder=better
