Social security
« on: January 26, 2007, 09:28:00 am »
?????? Mom was a homemaker and Dad worked all his life and paid into
SS. Dad has passed away and now Mom can barely make ends meet. While the
possible "illegal" alien in front of her at the grocery store buys the
name brands, Mom goes for the gen eric brands, and day old breads. She
doesn't have out of state calling on her phone, because she can't afford
it and shops at the thrift shops and dollar stores.? She considers having
a pizza delivered once a week "eating out". She grew up during the
depression, watched her husband go overseas to fight in WW II a year after
their marriage, and then they went on to raise, feed and clothe 5
children, struggling to pay tuition for parochial schools.

The Senate voted this week to allow "illegal" aliens access to Social
Security benefits. I'm sorry, but how can the Senate justify this slap in
the face to born and bred, or naturalized citizens.

It is already impossible to live on Social Security alone. If they give
benefits to "illegal" aliens who have never contributed, where does that
leave us that have paid into Social Security all our working lives?

Attached is an opportunity to sign a petition that requires citizenship
for eligibility to receive Social services. If you do not wish to sign the
petition yourself, please forward on to anyone you think might be
interested.

PETITION FOR: President Bush Mr. President: The petition below is a
protest against the recent vote of the senate which was to allow illegal
aliens access to our social security! We demand that you and all
congressional representatives require citizenship for anyone to be
eligible for social services in the United States

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Blazin- don't forget- Congress does not pay into nor receive Social (In) security. They have their own retirement program- much much better than ss and we provide it for them.Plus they never har to worry about anybody borrowing from their own program for anything- they protect it form such,
They're not as stupid as we think...    Where do I sign up?

You can add my name to that list.

Mark Spinner-Georgetown,tx

I hate working for freeloaders. Its bad enough when you need the help that when you ask for it you are denied. And around here illegal immigrants are taking all the jobs and the companies that hire them are paying them under the table so the money they are suppose to pay in is not going in.

High light it, hit ctrl C, then put your cursor in your new email text box, then hit ctrl V, add your name to it, and send it on to all your addresses.

I gotta chime in on this topic.  You know, social security is not designed to "live on".

Quote:
It is already impossible to live on Social Security alone. If they give...

In its inception, and STILL is, it is technically called SSI, not social security.   Social Security INSURANCE, not something to live on when you have gray hair.

It was designed to be an insurance, just like your health insurance, to help those who have been injured (blinded, amputation, widowed, etc...) to help them survive-- those who are put into an unfortunate position----not to be the means for your old-age income.

In fact, it was designed to kick in after your life expectancy has been reached---back then it was like 62 yrs old for complete life expantancy.....so you wont run out of money when you are, if you're lucky enough, in your 70's and 80's, you would have at least an SSI supplement.  The Feds were counting on over 80% of citizens kicking the bucket before SSI would kick in---not as a retirement fund for 100% Americans. Remember, you were not supposed to live that long.

It was not meant for the gov't to take away any responsibility of an individual to work or to save money while working.  Unfortunately, that is how most think of it.   It is such a shame.

Now, i agree about those who don't put a penny towards it should not reap the benefits (I'm not talking those who are blind or crippled and mentally challenged ).  But then again, the poor unmotivated people don't put a penny towards it but collects it all their lives.  On the other hand, you really can't put a scale on it like, if you only made $20k a year, you can only collect $50 a month upon retirement.  If you made $100k a year, well, you can get $5K a month when you retire.....IT WASN'T DESIGNED FOR THIS.

Remember, it is a SOCIAL program, like socialism.  it is called social security insurance.  Do you see a pattern here?

Those on the far left of the political spectrum love these programs because it takes money from those who "earn" and gives it to those who  are  "unmotivated to earn". Share the wealth, even if you don't deserve it. At least, that is what it has become in the 21st century.  We all know that if you have to work to eat, you will work.  We all see many of the people who just don't want to work and therefore don't have to  because of SSI---it has formed a "lazy" class. Just go to the doctor and tell him your back hurts all the time...Bingo!  SSI for life....yeehaww!!!  Not gonna make me work anymore.

It was designed as insurance, just like health insurance.  Health insurance doesn't mean you will have great health while you have insurance...it means the costs will be covered for unfortunate circumstances.  SSI is supposed to go to those who are under unfortunate circumstances, not as a retirement fund for those who did not save during their working career.

If you want a retirement fund, go get some mutual funds or stocks or 401k's.  SSI is not your retirement fund.  Get Life Insurance for your better half in case you leave this earth first.  SSI is for if a car battery explodes in your face and you become blinded, well, SSI should and would kick in.

A man of my age, 39, will never, ever, see social security until we reach 73 yrs old.  I ain't gonna live that long--and the gov't is counting on me croaking prior to me getting SSI.  But, if my legs get chopped off in some freak accident, SSI will be there for me. I would not get rich from it, nor should I.  Again, it was not designed for me to buy name brand items and live middle class if i retire at 50.

Now the mass of voters see it as a retirement fund, the politicians must view it that way too or he/she will lose millions of voters.  It is a trap we all have fallen in.  Politicians are not going to distant themselves from their constituents and not get voted in next term.  Now, it has become a retirement fund.

Devil's advocate....Scenario:  an illegal immigrant comes to this country.  the immigrant has an accident and can't earn money to survive on.  Where would this immigrant end up with no money?  I will tell you.

This immigrant is not going back to Mexico.  This immigrant will beg/borrow and yes, steal.  This immigrant will be in jail/prison for a long time.  You know how much it costs to hold an inmate for twenty years in prison?  How about $400,000 on average.  Or maybe he will end up in a mental institution (where many homeless go)----even more expensive for the taxpayer.  If this guy gets a couple hundred bucks a month---that money will go back in to the economy at the food stores, apartment landlords, electric companies, etc...Those who receive the immigrant's money will pay taxes on it and a percentage goes back into SSI.  It all gets spent again and keeps the economy going full speed ahead. The store owners and landlords spend that money on other things in the economy.

My deal is, if they are illegal, instead of using all their information (d.o.b., address, etc..) to give them a check, CALL INS----deport them!!!!  They are, after all, ILLEGAL.  But, if that is not an option, there are worse things going on in this world.

I don't mean to offend anyone, just looking at the other side too.  There is no "right" answer to this.

The real issue is to secure our borders!!!

Just like Health Insurance, or Auto Insurance, or any other Insurance, I HOPE I NEVER SEE ANY NEED FOR SSI--that would mean i have had some unfortunate event happen--amputation, blindness, widowness, etc.. I DONT WANT TO USE THIS INSURANCE--JUST LIKE ANY OTHER INSURANCE.  That is the mindset we should all have.  You should not look at it like, "man, because of all these immigrants, my retirement money won't be there and I won't live as good a life".  WRONG! WRONG!

A bigger issue than this is buying foreign items.  Why spend $30k on a toyota and send all of that money to japan--that is money that is sent away from this country.  This takes a bigger toll on our standard of living.  That is money that IS NOT put back into our economy---Have you heard what the US trade deficit is lately?--they are not sending this money back at an equal rate.  Yeah, sure some toyotas and hondas are made on this soil, but, where does the profits go?  my guess, to the other side of the pacific.  The Federal gov't will not do anything about this issue because it would start WWIII with trade and tariffs, etc....It is up to the individual American citizen to limit our imports---the Feds cannot do anything---dont rely on uncle sam, he doesnt want to start a trade war.  TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AMERICANS!!!  My grandkids deserve at least an equal standard of living that i enjoy.

I agree it was not meant to live on. I only posted this because I am against dirt bags that never help them selves except when we are footing the bill. I also agree that our borders should be closed. They should dig a moat the length of the mexican border, use the dirt to build up the levys in New Orleans, Fill the moat with crocs / aligators, build a fence on both sides of the moat with enough room on our side for a strip of land mines, and post sharp shooters along our side of the fence. If they make it past the gators and mines shoot them.

I second that motion.  It makes me even more sick because my roots have been on this soil since before the Revolutionary War.  In fact, my gr,gr,gr,gr grandfather Thomas Delbridge fought in the Rev. War.  All my lineages, both paternally and maternally (roots here in 1750's) have all been here since we owed allegience to the British King.  They have fought in all the wars and made this country what it is and any Humberto Rodriguez can walk across the Rio Grande and have the same rights and privedges as me. In fact, being in the minority, they get scholarships before my kid can.  Sumtin's wrong wid dat.

---done venting for now.
