« on: August 17, 2008, 12:15:18 pm »
hey guys i got a holley 600 manual choke on my 73 chevy 4wd with a 350,and i rebuilt it about a year ago and it works good, but i think im lookin for somthin with a lil more perfomance, mines a pretty old 1850 model with vacumn secondaries, and that about it,its pretty easy to blow out power valves in these things, and maybe that the case but it just doesnt give me that ummp when ya get into it,so i was curoius about what would be a nice upgrade from what i got now, would like to stick with a holley, that 570 street avenger looks pretty nice but dont know anybody who's had one,and weather 570 is to small or not i dont know,i have a 4 bolt 350 with performer intake, headers, msd hei ingnition and that about it,nothin crazy, let me know what ya guys think, would like to pick one up this week! Thanks guys!

What exactly is your goal? Think of your carburetor as nothing more than a fuel metering device. If you need more fuel and air for your engine than a larger CFM carburetor would be warranted otherwise if you want better performance you may have better options.

exactly, I assume based on what you said about the engine, it never sees the other side of 5000 RPMs. If that 600 is working good, thats a pretty good carb for that engine. The 570 Holley wouldnt be a bad choice either actually on a otherwise stock 350.

One thing you must remember about carburetors. The bigger the carb doesn't always mean better or more horsepower same way with cams. If your heads, intake and exhaust can't flow more than 600 it will do you no good. Hear is an example I have a 350 with a eagle crank and rods to bring it to a 383 I have aluminum dart heads airgap intake and it is a true full roller and I have a holley 650 double pumper and this motor dynoed at 523 horse and when we were playing around with it on the dyno we put on a 750 dumper and we gained nothing. basically you need to be able to flow more and burn more fuel for a bigger carb to do you any good and a stock or mild 350 might flow 400.
