Moog or Energy Suspension?
« on: August 22, 2008, 01:05:44 am »
At work, I was lookin at doin all new A arm bushings, leaf springs, etc.  We carry Moog, and I can order Energy suspension, the price difference is not too much few dollars here and there.  I just want opinions on the 2 brands.  I hear Energy is one of the best out there, and also hear Moog can take great abuse and is a  very high quality part......

I have used both over the years. Not sure if the Moog stuff you are looking at is original replacement meaning rubber, or if they have a urethane line out now. As far as I know Energy only makes urethane stuff. So I guess a question would be are you comparing apples to apples? Moog parts used to be lifetime warranty? I would imagine they still are.

Like Blazin said most of Moogs products are an oem replacement.

When I used to sell them Both, MOOG was a Better step up from OEM style, and would generally last longer than the Factory Stuff....  Again MOOG's parts are a Rubber like OEM, whereas Energy Suspension is a Urethane Plastic, that will out last the Factory & MOOG Rubber pieces....
Personally I'm ready to rip my car and truck apart and use ES Urethane pieces in both, as I have heard nothing but high marks, when they are used for daily drivers & minor off-road use like mine see/will see...

You just want to make sure you thoroughly coat the Urethane pieces with the supplied grease(Really I would get some extra, as the supplied never seems to be enough for all of the parts), otherwise you will have some ridiculously squeaky setup(I have PST Urethanes embedded with Graphite, and they are annoying!!)...

The PST one I have used over the years don't make any noise.  I have been using them for longer than I can remember.

I just rebuilt the front end on my 78 C20 with all moog parts.  I also rebuilt the front end under my 77 and a 69 mustang and I have no complaints about anything about moog.  The new moog parts always look a bit beefier then the oem stuff I replaced, and the boots have that little groove in them so when the dealer greases the front end they cannot bust the boot pumping in too much grease.  I got some sway bar bushings that aren't urethane but are supposed to be somewhere between OE rubber and urethane.  I don't know how the oe bushings were when new, but now the truck barely leans even in sharp corners; I'm impressed with them (Though it may just be everything was worn and now everythings new.)  Check stores on the internet for prices though,  I bought everything I needed plus new springs for $50 less shipping and all, than I could get everything minus springs at the parts stores around here.

I just bought some new ES body mount bushings today and they look impressively made. Parts store guy said they wouldn't squeek. They are black in color and are quite slippery.

They seem to be hit and miss Capt.....   I have read nothing but rave reviews from the various mags, but a few of my Buddies have had the same experience I had, and they did their installs around & after mine was done....  Anytime I take a Speedbump at idle, cruise a trashed stretch of the local Freeways/Hiways, my frontend sounds like its being beaten to death(Even with 2yr old Bilsteins on all corners, whichs seems like the fronts are shot already due to them over working)!!! :o  >:( >:(
