What do you want to do with it?  What is your end goal?  What is your budget?

Sounds a lot like my motor before I did the cam and heads on it. My stock heads though were 1971 castings which might have flowed a little better than the 882s and I have 2 1/4" exhaust. The cam was also an old skool Blazer 260 which was pretty mild. I estimated it around 250 HP at best.

For $650 you can get either a set of assembled RHS Vortec heads or Dart Iron Eagle heads, or a set of stock rebuilt Vortecs for around $500. Add in one of those Summit cams for $89 or so and you can easily have a 300 HP motor if not 340-350 HP. Is your budget just for parts or installed too? Doing a cam and heads you have to factor in probably $200 just in gaskets and other misc small stuff do to the swap.

thanks man.. ill probably go that route.. i have a set of double hump heads that i might wanna throw on there but they need to be worked before they would be any good.. they were $$$free$$$.. :)

but if i do go with the double humps im gonna have to fab up an accessory bracket to use my alt. and p.s.

what cam would you suggest i should use with a set of double humps with the 2.02 valve??  i heard double humps were good heads, they just dont have accessory bolt holes..

bassically i wanna put heads on it and cam it for less than $1000

nothing fancy, just mild and wild at the same time..

speaking of performance.. im thinkin of doing a foxbody mustang project..  i wanna put an LS1 in a foxbody (love the body style and i wanna piss off some ford lovers).   i personally dont care what anyone thinks about the whole ford vs. chevy thing.. i love chevy power, but i love foxbody mustangs..  why not have the best of both worlds?? lol

The double-humps were good in there time and they still aren't a bad head if the price is right. As long as you don't put in more money rebuilding them than it costs to buy the Darts or Vortecs I mentioned, you are good to go. There are some variants on the double-humps too. I had a great link that explained them but now that link is dead. There are 041, 187 and 'x' castings just to name a few. The 2.02 valves are good for upper-rpm flow but they will hurt bottom end and you want to keep velocity high to move these heavy trucks off the line. If you are okay with your power coming on really well at say 2500-3000 rpm, than the 2.02s are fine. There have been a few threads discussing cams in the past. I like my Xtreme Energy 268 but Summitt also sells quality cams at really low prices. One that's been recommended a few times I believe is there 292 duration cam. VileZambonie on here is a fan of them and I'm sure can link you to the ones he's had good experiences with.

A friend of mine has a 89 Mustang LX notch-back that he put a 355 into. Has RHS Vortec heads on it and I think a 100 shot. Runs high 10s. He did it just to be different and he has a Yenko-style stripe on the side of his car that says S/C 355 or something on it. It's funny.
