dumb spark plug question
« on: September 23, 2008, 10:53:54 am »
ok, i feel stupid for asking- but changing plugs on my 91 Burb, I couldn't seem to get the socket onto the plug right underneath the dipstick tube.  i was fed up by this point with a few plugs giving me fits to get out cause they seemed to have seized up in there, but still i couldn't get the socket in there for that one plug.  now, the truck runs/idles terrible- don't know if this one cylinder is firing so poorly now that the others are changed or what.  have a new set of wires to put on this weekend too.  anybody have an idea how to get that plug out?

Is there crud built up around the plug? Try spraying it down with penetrating oil and using a pick tool to scrape around the plug. then blow it off with compressed air so you don't get any crap in the cylinder.

i did spray em, it doesn't seem like crud, it seems like the dipstick tube is getting in the way- from what i can 'feel'- can't really see without getting upside down in the engine bay!

use an inspection mirror. The dipstick tube shouldn't be in the way.
