Have you ever...
« on: September 24, 2008, 03:55:28 pm »
made a list of things you spend money on a year that you really don't need but can easily get by without? I did that today and boy was I surprised. I know my family needs to make some changes. Here is what I feel is non essential and should really need cut out.

Fast food
gasoline burned on going places not really necessary
digital cable (regular cable is much cheaper)
Internet (yes internet is not essential)
impulse buying (those stereo speakers you just had to have etc)
cell phones (home phone is only $30 a month here)
misc

anyways we spent $12k on this stuff last year  :o

I don't want to add it up! :o  I am sure I do not want to know. But that is a good point and a way to save a dollar in these tough economic times.

I know where we save money......we are keeping these trucks alive without spending $30k+ on a new truck.  That's why I have two  ;D I guess I could get rid of one.....naww, 'taint worth it.  I'll keep it, you only live once.

yes I have my digital cable
yes I have my landline and cell
yes I have my two cases of beer in my basement fridge ALL the time-when i drink a case, i have a backup
yes I have my high speed internet--how else could I keep all my many websites up and runnin?
yes I have my impulse buying--when i see 4 or 5 books I like at the store I buy, why go to library?
yes I have two trucks that suck @gas mileage, but I don't care-not gonna drive no Prius, and not gonna walk.
yes I have a big house--not gonna live in a two bedroom 1 bath tin can on wheels
yes, best of all, I drive with no particular place to go simply because I CAN and I LOVE it.

Can I save money? You bet your bottom dollar--Do I want to save money? HA! for what--i live life!

Why save money just to give it to your spoiled kids when you die?

Now pass me those leftovers...

My wife and I run a pretty tight ship.  I hate debt.  We no debt (other then the mortgage) until her grandpa offered me his '77 K20 for $1000.  Oh well, it was worth it.  I'll have it paid off before the end of the year.

I get sick talking to a buddy of mine that just came out or bankruptcy.  He told me the other day that in order to re-establish credit, he had to borrow to buy something, so he went to the furniture store and bought a 42" LCD TV to replace his 32" LCD TV.  It had a $1400 cash price, but he has no cash, so he is financing it over 2 years at 20%!!  He pays $120 a month, for a total of $2800.  But he said he is good because he just started a job cooking for $12 an hour.

Well put SGT,
i am pretty good with money myself. Now n then i`ll go buy something from a fast food place, like thursday i`m buying a lift for my shop.I hate debt as well but realize this were in debt for life no matter if we think or we knoew we dont got debt were NEVER out of it.I am not gonna let my ol man tell me what i shouldnt buy or what i can buy, to me if you dont enjoy life to its fullest you lived a pretty boring life.I dont go out and buy a a lot of parts or a lot of cars or trucks i am happy with what i got and i am managing pretty good and life is to short to worry.

thanks
