Running too Rich

Ever since my truck has been running I have been told it is running too "Rich" and that is why I am only getting 7-8 MPG, but no one has given me any suggestions to fix it. I have a crate 350 with Hooker headers and an Edelbrok manifold and carb. I have tried to adjust the carb but nothing I have done seems to help. I still have black debris coming out the exhaust and don't feel I am getting maximum power for what i have.
Anyone have suggestions how to make my truck run not so rich and to improve gas milage?

What model Edelbrock? You can do some leaning out with new metering rods/ and or jets, depending on where you're at. If you look real close on the metering rods, it'll tell you the size, so you know where you're currently at.

What have you done to adjust your carburetor?
Check the float level and get one of
these
Adjust your timing and tune it up if necessary
