VIBRATION is driving me nuts...
«

I drove my 383 1984 SWB to the drag strip/car show this weekend and noticed a vibration in the driveline that gets very heavy and loud from 40 mph and up... I have tried three sets of wheels and tires and it is still there.
I recently had the driveshaft (an Inland Driveline custom unit) shortened 7/8", but did not notice it as bad until this weekend. I had only driven it around town before this trip, never at 65 mph for longer distances.
Any suggestions or places to start looking?

I know that I have a weight missing from one of my rear drums that gives me a vibration.

Well if you are feeling it come from the drivetrain, before i had my transmission rebuilt i was getting some pretty bad vibration some my torque converter. The guy at the tranny shop said it was no good and he replaced it with one that he said was a much better brand anyway.

When you had the driveshaft shortened, was it balanced? Did one of the weights that they weld on, come off?

It was supposed to be balanced... Haven't checked the weights yet. Will also check the drums.
Thanks.

Does it get worse with speed? Get it to the vibration stage and put it in neutral if it goes away it could be your drivetrain. if not it could be the wheels/tires.
