rear window idea
« on: September 26, 2001, 06:28:00 pm »
Has anyone ever thought about a power 1 piece rear window?
It seems like it might be possible. You could use something like what is in the tailgate of a blazer. It probably wouldn't be exactly the same but maybe close enough to get an idea.Have any of you ever seen or heard of anything like this.May'be some of you custom experts out there can gimme some input on this.

One piece rear window as apposed to what?  All the 73-87's pickups came factory with a one piece back window.  The sliding glass was an added option.  (am I missunderstanding you?)

Example (looking from the side):

I was wondering if the solid rear window could be set up to roll up and down like the door windows do,like the window in the tailgate of a blazer does. The only reason I put "1 piece" was so it would not be confused with someone elses post about a power sliding rear window. When I read that post it got me thinkin....

I have heard of this and even saw a couple in a truck magazine quite some time ago, I also remember reading a Q&A in that (or similar) magazine a short time later and that company folded.  I don't read 'em, but check in a mini truck magazine, they (mini-truckers) do tons of that kind of stuff.  Good luck.

there was a company years back that offered what they called a limo back glass. it did allow you to lower the glass like a blazer tailgate glass. these units were kinda pricey for their day, (something in the $500 range and we're talking early 80's). they consisted of a completely new glass, frame, seals, power motor and switch. i don't remember them being around long, but trucks were really just getting started good as customs. you might try some back issues of TRUCKIN' say 79 to 81. i do seem to remember them doing an install piece on one. if you wanted to try a blazer rear unit you'll need the intire rear section but with a removable top a surburban tail section might be a better option. good luck    tim b.

My local Napa store was offering a power rear window unit for our trucks in like 94 or 95.

I've seen these not sure if they were totally custom fabbed or what. Wasn't one piece customs or whatever they're called planning on making these?

reminds me of that episode of Pimp My Ride where they turned that pickup into a retarded little pool table with the power rear window so you could make shots from inside the cab. the whole thing was retarded except for the power window part.

I got an old blazer sittin in my backyard with a power rear window. But I don't think it works and I'm not good with fabbing up neato stuff like that so I'll just stick to my sliding glass.

it is an awesome concept though.

Yes, they now have the info from RL Lawrance to make these now.  It is in the works, just not there yet.
They have also installed a flush to the rear cab setup, of course it isn't bolt in at all...

exactly its a very clean look original . the rear window slides up and down. like a blazer. remember this was original for our 73-87 chevy .Mexico has them 73-92, same body even better. only problem they are VERY EXPENSIVE. not talking pesos now.

I saw a one piece window that popped out (it was probably lexan or plexiglass). The frame fit in the factory window channel, and the removable section sealed against that frame. I believe it was in stylin concepts .....

The Breezer is what it is called.

Please try to refrain from use of the word sucks.  I don't want to have to add it to the ban list...
