Hey guys got a problem here, when im driving it takes awhile for my truck to kick into 2nd gear revs pretty high before it kicks in, also my truck half the time has a problem with staying in park after i shut it off, it starts to roll back, can some one help me out.....Thanks

How about a little information on what the vehicle is first? What transmission do you have? As for park check the linkage for play and adjustment. As far as your trans are you saying you have a really late upshift?

If you have a vacuum modulator make sure the vacuum hose is connected and has a vacuum signal at the modulator diaphragm. If it's a 700R4 back off the TV cable a click or two. If neither of these ideas help check the governor valve.

im not sure what trans, sorry just got the truck and trying to fix alot of things wrong with it, its a 86 c10 305 , how do you fix the parking issue, i dont know much about these trucks....sorry but it shifts into first just fine, then revs pretty high before it shifts into 2nd then after that i dont even feel it kit into 3rd

I'd start with a Chilton or Haynes manual for these trucks, a bunch of info.  Will help with Vile's suggestions.

Are you starting from D or 1?  And does it have OD?

First, let's figure out what type of transmission you have.

Get under the truck and look at the transmission pan.  If it is square, but one corner is cut off, it is a TH350.  If it is just an odd shape, it is a TH400.  If it is completely square (no odd shapes) it is a 700R4.  You can also look at where the modulator is.  If it is located at the back near the tail, it is a TH350.  If it is more on the side by the dip-stick, it is a TH400.  The 700R4 doesn't have one.

Being an '86 with a 305, more than likely it has a TH350.

If you look at the pics I just posted you can see what VeeTwin is talking about.  In my case, my transmission had finally packed it in so I took it to a transmission shop and had the whole thing rebuilt.  In your case, maybe a simple oil and filter change might solve the problem?
