I've been out of the stereo stuff for quite some time but I bought a set of 8" subs once and couldn't slide my seat back all the way.  I took them out to build my own box and the speakers themselves with no box wouldn't let the seat slide back all the way.  So, I don't have them anymore.  I have always meant to get a set of flat subs that are electronic.  I have heard they are very compact for what they do.  I had a set of 6x9 cerwin vega's that sounded so good in a cavalier I had I couldn't believe it.  I put sound mat around the cab corners and built custom boxes for them with a vent tube and all, they sound pretty bad in there.  I have a set of high end boston acustics in my 80, also sounds bad.  I have almost given up on making one of these truck sound good with a stereo so it will be interesting if anyone has some good advise.

No I don't have a pic of the ones I built and that truck is at the fairgrounds in storage so I can't get you one.  I bought a kit somewhere a long time ago to put 6x9's in my 80.  I like the one I built better, I used plexy glass and turned out very well.

I should add if you have a custom seat instead of a bench it will open up all kinds of room for a sub

Check out my page for some ideas. Page 6 under my 1997 Avenger shows my old system. Under my yellow truck's own page is some pics of the new console setup I'm building to hold 1 12"

http://www.cardomain.com/id/sux2bu99

I've seen 4 8's in these trucks, and 2 10's + 2 12's all in 1 box, but the depth behind the seat usually limits a person to using 8" subs or maybe shallow 10s. There are shallow-depth 12s out there too and I've heard good things about the JL Audio 'flat' subs. They are under 3" deep and 3" is about the depth limit at the bottom that you would want to avoid moving your seat.

Check out the Memphis S-class shallow mount subs. Memphis is known for big bass in small enclosures. I have two PR10's under the rear seat of my extended cab coupled with a 1000D and it is all you would ever want.

i have a shallow pioneer 10" sub behind my stock seat. i need to have the seat all the way back otherwise i cant really drive it and i have about 1" b4 the seat touches the sub box at the top. i found a really shallow box (2nd one i had to buy grrr) at "visions electronics" that mated with the shallow sub perfectly. sounds good too with my crappy amp!  i also have four 6x9's in the back with a stiffening cap. no room behind there for nothing else haha.  i dont know how to upload pics here so i guess its time to use the search function lol

i have two full size 10s. there are a few shallow 12s that you can get now. rockford, kenwood, kicker, jl all make them they are kinda expensive though.
