What tires should I run?
« on: December 22, 2008, 10:48:56 pm »
My truck is going to be street strip.  I have a nice set of rims and tires, but I need some big sticky tires that I can deal with everyday.  I don't want drag radials because I occasionally have to drive in the rain.  I have 15x10 BFgoodrich radial T/A's but I want something a bit more sticky for the rear.  Suggestions?

Drag radials sound exactly like what you want but you don't want them.

I've used hoosier (would not recommend), BFG, and Mickey Thompson. The M/T's handle the best in wet weather and as long as you aren't driving like a tard lick you'll be fine.

I mean I could deal with them I suppose, I just know they're bad in the rain.  How much do the M/T's cost?  Roughly that is.  Like $600 for a set?

Drag radials are your best bet.  If you take it easy in the rain you should be fine.

I run Mickey Thompson Street ET's on my Camaro at the track. They took 4 tenths off in the 1/4 mile compared to the B.F. Goodrich radial t/a's I had on the car.  I usually don't drive with them on the street but they are DOT approved.

Grinder, I'm running 325/50-15 ET Street Radials (28"x11") on a 10" wheel. They have worked real well for me. I have gotten caught in the rain a couple times...like the others have said, you have to drive like your concerned, but no problems. The regular ET Streets are NOT near as friendly in the rain. I used to run M&H Racemasters Drag Radials on a daily driver. I broke 3 sets of ring gears with them dumpin the clutch at 4000-4500 rpm so they do hook up. But like the others have said, they're not great in the rain.

I found a sweet deal on some older MT cheater slicks.  $100 for the pair and they are in great shape.  I will eventually move up to a nicer tire but these will work for now.
