Transmission Pan leak
« on: December 26, 2008, 12:16:26 pm »
I have a 1984 c10, with a 350 and a THM700-R4. I have replaced the transmission filter and pan gasket, i replaced it with a rubber gasket. Now when i crank the truck and turn it off the tranny fluid spills out of the corner of the pan. I have tightened the bolts to 10ftlbs, and the pan still leaks from that same corner. What should i do? Should i try a cork gasket?
thanks,

you sure it isn't the fill tube o ring?  It may appear it comes from the pan, but without extensive study, it may come from above...perhaps tranny lines?
Or, if it is definately the pan, it could be warped.

maybe the gasket didn't seat properly? Or maybe some gasket material from the old gasket is still on the pan or transmission? If it turns out to be a warped pan, there's some aluminum one on fleabay.

I found the leak it was one of the cooler lines that was loose.
But the transmission has lost 2nd gear. While driving, it will leave 1st and will not go to 2nd it will just rev high and wont switch gears.
Will i need a new transmission? Or is there be a simple fix?
thanks,

Maybe the new filter isn't in there right?

That happened to me after I changed my fluid in my 700R4. It turned out that one of the pistons in the valve body seized up.

Did you get it fixed? If so,how much did it cost you?
and what parts did you have to buy?

Make sure the TV cable is adjusted correctly. If it's slipping into 2nd odds are the band isn't applying and you can check the servo assembly without pulling the trans. If the band was bruned you would have found a lot of greyish cocky in the pan.

When i took the pan out there was a lot of thick grey stuff at the bottom of the pan, so if this means the band is burned, do i need a new transmission? or can it be fixed?
thanks,
