Sometimes the cause of the sticking solenoid switch is a very low charge. Throw a good juicy charge on the that joker and you should be good to go. Now, why the battery power declined is another story. Alternator? Old battery? connections?that happened to me when I knew the battery was low (left lights or something on) the went to start it, the starter kept on chugging, no matter the key position.
you probably need a new starter. I went through this on a friends 94 Blazer. We went through 3 starters (reman) and he finally bought a new one, and problem went away.
