well an update after a few months!

truck has showed some driveabilty issues with the carb that i havent been able to tune out.
so a possible change here soon to a different carb will probally be in order.
also for some dang reason a head gasket started seeping oil and has really ticked me off.
going friday to get a pair of doors off a donor truck and a tilt steering column.
along with some misc interior pieces and carpeting.
also a repaint is probally going to happen this winter.
more to come.

ended up only getting 1 door, could not find a decent drivers door.
plus my door is still good im just gonna get a window regulator and reseal it.
got the tilt column in and im amazed.
No slop, everything works and got it Pulled for $79!
door was more though as it was $140.
for everyone start checking your metal recyclers, the cash for clunkers vehicles, parts can be sold off of!
just cant sell the main body or engine.
i might be heading back to get a full 700r swap from a donor 91 burb.

UPDATE:

sorry its been so long since ive logged on here or even posted.
but got some good news and bad.

the good.
got a lot of detail stuff worked out and got paint and all the materials waiting

the bad...
after numerous problems setting the engine up and trying to get it to run properly i have gave up...
after a lot of diagnosing and testing it looks to be this cam has begun wearing out 4 lobes, lifters will not hold their prime, and i am fed up...
im in a dispute with summit over these grievances, but God knows if they will stand behind their products.

so if this all goes to heck im saying to heck with small blocks, stripping this engine of usable parts and selling them and buy a BBC crate engine...

Your quote "there's a bit of a timing issue im trying to solve.
im showing 39 degrees advance at idle for the truck to run good."

Could your distributor be a tooth off? had this on my '82. The problems you are having sound very similar to the symptoms mine showed including the advance. ran like a top after lifting and moving the distributor a tooth also put the timing marks dead on.

What led you to replace the balancer? Just the timing issue (I presume the balancer had slipped)? Did you have any vibration issues at all throughout the RPM range?

Well after 2 hrs on the phone I have decided to never purchase any type of engine component from summit racing again. Their house brand are cheap Chinese stuff and they won't stand behind their products.
Best in customer service my you know what...

This motor is coming apart and being sold.
Most everything is still good but Im keeping the long block for a boat anchor. Lol...

Bought a 468 today and gonna just drop it in and go.

In 16 years I've never had a bad summit cam. I'm not saying you don't just I've had good luck with them. Now I'm really surprised they told you to pound sand. When did you buy the cam?

it has been over the "90 days" but this engine doesn't have many miles at all....
but after some digging through my emails between summit when i first re did the engine and when i ordered the parts i seen something.

when i went to order the cam i told the "Tech" that i have high seat pressure large valve springs, but he still reccomended the cam that went down.

i should have went with my gut and got a roller and now wouldnt have to go back into the engine.
