Fuel Injectors and Trouble codes
«

I have an 87 GMC with a 350 ci TBI engine. My question is will stopped up injectors cause a trouble code. I have run an SES light test and nothing comes up, just the usual 12 start up code. My truck doesn't run rough but it just doesn't feel like it has the power it should and at highway speeds it seems to shudder a bit but picks up and runs fine when kicked down in passing gear. I haven't owned it very long and it has been this way since the day I bought it. The spray pattern from what I can see looks ok but I really couldn't see it that well. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help/advice......Jerry

What do you have for a final drive gear ratio? What transmission do you have? It sounds like a loose TV cable 700R4 in front of a 3.08 rear end.

700R4 with a 3:08, do I need to adjust the TV cable? I'm thinking of switching to 3:42 gears....would that help things?

Yes, tighten up the TV cable a few clicks and see what happens.

Thanks for the quick and informative reply, this has been the only thing that has really bugged me about this truck, with only 53,000 on it I figure I can get a few years out of it and then pass it down to my son...........the real reason I bought it. Thanks again, Jerry

As long as you see a spray the injectors are working. I'm having a similar problem, and I think my spray is a bit heavy but mine keeps blowing the ecmB fuse and throws a code 42. At least you're not blowing fuses huh?

Don, I think he's just feeling the lack of power due to the converter locking prematurely and not unlocking soon enough.
You are still blowing your ECM fuse? I thought you fixed it?

Well I found the problem, it was actually multiple things, 1 plug wire was arcing against the manifold shield (new wire set) and the fuel filter was VERY hard to blow through (new filter) these two things made a huge difference......after a few test drives I adjusted the cable back about 1/8 inch and it made it a totally different truck!!!! I still plan on the 3:42 gear set for pulling my newly used pop-up camper (another money pit) once again THANK YOU for all the help and advice, I'm fairly new to these trucks but if anyone needs any info help on Fox body Mustangs I can help in that area.

Nice fix Jerry. Hey, keep us informed on the dif. change. I'm going down that same road soon.
Vile- the blown ecmB fuse has returned. Still sporatic. To make a long story short, troubleshooting hasn't pinned anything down yet. I'm going by the emissions manual. I've had to put everything off for a week of computer training. and back problems. ow.

I found an entire rear end with a posi unit and 3:42 gears here locally in Jonesboro, AR at a salvage yard. I got the rear end and heavy duty leaf springs and a tranny cooler from a newer truck for 200.00 I am in the process of blasting the crud off and installing new wheel cylinders, drums and brake shoes. I am waiting on some POR-15 to coat everything with and we'll see how it goes on the install. My buddy has this same unit in his truck and he said it made a night and day difference in the drivability of his truck.
