« on: February 26, 2009, 08:59:11 pm »
Well got it up to my shop yesterday. Its all done being blocked. Sparyed the chip guard on. Got my headlight bezels down ( took  the turn sig out) eveything is going to be paint in the front all but the bump and the grill. I think it will look pretty good. So should be painting it this sat. fun fun

I would discourage any attempt to add HID lighting to these trucks, most of the time you end up with insanely high glare and no improvement in light output, unless you know for sure the person knows how to and has the equipment to custom make reflectors for the projectors. The housing should look MUCH different. A better solution is to convert to standard diffusing headlight lenses but with the replaceable halogen bulb, and use a set of silvania silverstars. Low glare (assuming you get the lenses WITH the factory style diffusers, NOT the crystal clear), but much more usable brightness. However, if the guy knows how to make reflectors that are projector-compatible, then by all means, go for it. HID lights are great, IF they're properly designed. Expect to pay $1500-$2000 for a PROPER conversion kit.

BTW, sweet idea with moving the turn signals, I've never thought about that in a 73-80 truck. I'm very interested in seeing how it turns out looking when installed.

Nice work. It looks like its coming right along. As for the turn signals why not try a bumper from an 81 with them built in. Or maybe behind the grille so you only see them when thier on. Just a couple of ideas. I just thought of another one. What if you used one of the front bumper bolts on each side repalce it with some kind of LED type bulb and socket. Its kinda hard to explain but the idea in my head looks cool.
