Rebuild project questions drive line bearing
« on: May 17, 2009, 07:50:03 am »
I am working on my 87 R-30 . I have pulled the front drive line and in the middle between the front and rear drive line is a pillow block bearing. It needs to be replaced but everywhere i've gone to get parts i've struck out.  What is this bearing called and where can i find one. Its not even mentioned or shown in a Chiltons manual ???

Yes its a 2 piece drive.  I am trying to get a picture uploaded to show what I am talking about.  It appears that the bearing is blown. It is original to the truck so its way over due for replacement.

Is the one listed on the web page the one I need ? And why would is it a lot cheaper? I want to make sure I get one that is heavy duty. Its for my dump truck.

ive gotten carrier bearings before from even pepboys. and pepboys usually doesnt have anything. $148 sounds like they don't know what they are talking about too that seems very steep.

I picked up the bearing at ACME a greasable one was $70 and I also picked up u-joints.  Any tricks on getting the old rusty ones out?  The clips have rusted away. I've been spraying P-B Blaster on them for days. >:(

If you need help make the trip and I'll help you get it all set up.

Do you have the internal clips? Use a sharp screwdriver and a hammer and smack them out. Take an old 5/8" or so impact socket and secure it in a pair of vice grips. Get your BFH and support the yoke ends of the shaft. Use your vice to punch it through one side through the opening in the vice and remove the cap. Flip the it over and send the trunion back through the other way and remove the opposing cap. Once it's off it'll come out.
