Holley or Edelbrock top end...

Hopefully in another month or so I am going to purchase either http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-2098/  or this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-300-503-1/ for my 75's 350 to wake it up a bit. I however cannot decide on which of the two to go with. I have always had good luck with edelbrock but never tried holly so i cant knock it since i havent used it.  The differences I noted are: Holley has timing chain and gears includedeldebrock doesnt, Edelbrock has gaskets included, holley doesnt, Edelbrock heads have 64cc combustion chamber heads and holley has 68. Holley includes pushrods, eldebrock doesnt. Edelbrock includes damper springs, holley doesnt.  Holley doesnt put any numbers on theirs, but edelbrock says 410 hp and 408ftlbs.

What do you guys think would be the better buy, better combo and which one would have more power?

From what you've said, I'd go with the Edelbrock. Their heads and intakes are good proven 'performers' (lol) and the gaskets would cost about what a timing chain and pushrods would. Plus they give some numbers and have a little smaller chambers which is nice if you don't mind possibly running premium gas. One thing though is that published HP numbers like that are dyno numbers taken in absolutely perfect conditions with optimum tuning, no engine accessories that rob power, nice long-tube headers (probably) and straight through free-flowing exhaust, all catered to make the best numbers. It's like the old gross HP ratings of the muscle-car era vs. net HP numbers that we use today.
85 Chevy Silverado C10 short, wide, yellow, 2wd. Lowered, 60-over 350 with Dart Iron Eagle heads and Comp Cams XE268 cam, TH350 w/ shift kit, 3.40 Gov-lok 12 bolt.

I'm with Vile.  Put your own power package together for alot less.  Better yet, have Vile put one together for you. ;D

I would look towards iron heads.  Even fancy aftermarket iron heads will save you a few hundred.

Throw some part numbers out of a wicked package you would throw together if you don't mind.

Building an engine is like getting a haircut. If it comes out bad you'll be pissed! If it comes out ok you're sorta happy but don't wanna look at it for too long. The big picture is what everyone has a hard time with. Think about your powerplant and your goals. Don't buy a cam because it says EXTREME! or VOODOO! with cool skulls. Don't buy aluminum heads because you heard they are better and so on. Think of what you have as a whole for a drivetrain, compound all of your ratio's and put together a powertrain not just an engine that gives you useless numbers that sounded good in an ad. So if you want helpful input tell us more about your powertrain and your goals.

I'm in the process of re-doing my top end now.  Shopping around and realizing what I wanted, I ended up with a used set of cast iron vortecs, summit cam, and an e-bay intake.  I don't need HP@5000+rpm, it's a truck that i want to drive.
