upper door seal?
« on: August 01, 2009, 06:00:44 pm »
I just finished putting in all new weatherstriping on my 87. But in the box there was something called 'upper door seals'. My truck didn't have these anyplace, but since I shaved the drip rails, I'm thinking that it might be good to add them. Question is this...were these every used on a 73-87? and if so, where?

Here's the best pic I have.  Look on the door itself above the windows.

If I remember right that seal came on silverados only for 79-80( or higher)?

Higher trim levels had them. I noticed many models having them other than silverado. I've seen them only on power window doors though.

Another mystery I guess... I've never seen one before 79 that had them.

this peaked my interest, not to say ive been looking for this, but ive never seen that before. Does it help sheet water off the roof better at all? im in the process of trying to seal my drip rails so i dont get soaked, but would the upper seal do anything extra than the regular one?

My 73 didn't bolt anywhere, it was glued to the door.

I don't have a pic, but on my 87 there was either a button or truss headed screw holding it in place in the front, just watch out because the screw head on the drivers side contacted the cab and made a bare metal spot I had to keep messing with to keep the rust away.  If you can do it somehow without using the front screw, id skip em.  The PO had installed the seals on my 87 so I've never done it before.
