Gauges/Dash problems on my 77!
« on: September 08, 2009, 08:04:38 pm »
So here's the story. Purchased a 1975 tach+gauges off Ebay, to put into my 77. I wanted the tach instead of gas gauge to be in front, so I could get rid of the aftermarket tach on my 77. Well long story short, I plugged the wrong wires and the thing caught fire. Shouldn't be a new problem to get a printed circuit board but I was wondering if anyone knows of any aftermarket wire conversion kits so I don't have to re-wire the thing??

Thanks!!

You cannot put a 73-75 cluster in anything BUT a 73-75 for the exact reason you experienced.  You will have to change the wiring for the 77's VOLT setup to the AMP setup on the 73-75.

Order up a 77 printed circuit for it (with the factory tach obviously) , along with a volt gauge. You'll have to move either one or two of the spring clips contacts where the amp gauge plugs into. IIRC, they need to be in the 12 and 3 o clock positions (looking at the back of the cluster). You can look at where the pins need to be on your original cluster to be sure.
