Ive got the 1/2 ton arms, and what I am wanting to do ibeef up the ball joint area, and machine it out to accept the 3/4 ton ball joints. The ball joint is the only thing ive been told is different, and I think its just the top one. Havent measure tho.

I do it, but not in a Chevy.  I have a 94 ZJ Grand witha 4.0 six that I use for desert blasting and dune running.  I have a mini spool in the rear axle and BFG all terrain tires in 32x1150.  It works well for what it is and hasn't left me stuck (gotta know where to go, though).

On my '86 Silverado, I figure the rear is high enough, so I'll eventually look for a set of 3/4 ton springs for the front.
I may one day do a 4x4 conversion, but that's WAY in the future, so I'd like to make this truck as offroad capable as
I can without spending a fortune. I know it's do-able, as I used to offroad my '74 K10 quite a lot... with no front driveshaft.

I don't want to lift it too much, or go with a specialty suspension, as this truck is primarily a hauler, and I don't want to
damage its utility. I suppose I'll need to carefully ensure that I can self-recover in situations that a 4x4 could have gotten itself
out of.
