torque converter makes a whistling noise

does anybody know why my torque converter would make a whistling noise? i can hear when its warmed up and idling but when i take off i can't seem hear it anymore. the transmission is a turbo 400.

Are you sure it's the converter? Loosen all the bolts, move the converter and retighten them and see what happens.

alright. you want me to just loosen or take them all out and spin the converter around a few times and then put the bolts back in

Caution!   If you do spin the converter around, make sure you put it back in the exact same position relative to the flexplate you started with---this is for balance reasons.  In other words, don't rotate from the original position.

i know many think it makes no difference as they may believe that the flexplate and converter are balanced seperately(and they may be right), but it can't hurt to put them in the exact same position as when you started.

i, personally, believe that the ARE indeed balanced together somehow at the factory and thus are mated in that particular position for a reason.

i don't have any solid proof, but it can't hurt anything by putting it back exactly as you found it.

They are not balanced together.

i found out what it was. the linkage is it what it is. don't ask me how but i can put my hand on the part where the spring and bushing is by the frame rail and it stops. guess it just needs some oil.
