4" lift on 84 K20
« on: December 14, 2009, 01:09:19 pm »
I am new to this and I just got my 84 K20 6.2 liter diesel. I am curious to know how hard it is to put a lift on a truck and which lift to get. Thanks to all for your help.

putting on a lift is pretty involved, how much mechanical work have you done?

Not to say you cant do it but get a buddy to help that has done some work but either way your going to have to remove the spring bolts and u bolts they might have to be cut off, had to cut all mine off the steering arm has to be changed there are a couple ways to do it. you have to pick which one to use brake lines have to be changed. Shocks also. What size tire you plane on using? And what do you plan on doing with it?

I planned on doing it with a friend of mine who has done this dozens of times so I can learn. I am thinking about 35" all-terrains so I can go trail riding and camping with my buddies on the weekends.

If that is the case, you should be fine with someone with hands on...

4" with 35's you need to trim the fenders if you want 35s 6" will do with maybe a little fender trimming

fender trimin is depitced on how much/little backspace/offset you are running.. other words how far out you plan stickign the tire out...
this is a 35x1250 or 315/75/16 ona  16x7" rim with 5.125" of back spacing

thats not true about having to trim fenders im running 35/12.50/15 on a stock lift truck 1984 k10 swb 4x4 from canada. and nothing rubs granted tires only have 14 tread left and are very close but they do fit just eat up front end components so i suggest beefing those up

If you are running 35's and didn't trim anything, the truck has a lift on it.

Certainly no lift in the pics!  Although I see you have the 3/4 ton 3 leafs that gives about an inch or so.  I personally feel those charts are pretty worthless.  It's all how you use your truck.  I buddy of mine had a street only truck and would drive around with stock ride height and 35's too.  He couldn't turn the wheel wheel to half lock on even pavement without some serious rubbing...but he did it!  On the flipside there are people out there with 6" and 33's because they twist up real good.  I ran 35's and 4" with very very minimal fender triming.  It was fine for mud and street.
