Engine Noise

Hey I'm new this forum. I'm wondering if someone can help me with this noise i get when i drive my 86 Chevy with a sbc 350 in it. I had put aluminum heads on and new rockers. I got it all back together and started it up it runs fine. then once i go down the road like a mile or so, i start to hear like a ticking noise comming from the passenger side of the motor. I thought it was a miss adjusted rocker. so i re set all the valve lash on all of them. let it cool down same thing happens. can it possibly be a lifter? Thanks

answer: yes.  It possibly could be a collapsed lifter.  Were the valves way out of adjustment when you adjusted them?

How did you adjust the valves? No bent pushrods? Get a mechanic's stethoscope and pinpoint where it's coming from.

no the valves were in adjustment but i went back over them again just to make sure. i had went onto shopkey and got the sequence and did it to where the rocker touched the pushrod with spinning it then 3/4 turn. i had checked it with the stethoscope it is sounds like it is coming from cylinder 6. cam, lifters and pushrods have about 400 miles on them. before i put the new heads on.

Sounds like you may be losing a lobe on the cam.  Check your lift on #6 and compare it to another cylinder.

do the heads have pressed in studs? i had this problem on a 305 were the stud had come loose
