What are the best seats for 73-87, in your opinion?
« on: April 14, 2010, 10:14:20 pm »
I know we have covered this topic a time or two. But this time, I would like to draw on the experience of someone who has seen a couple different setups, in real life. But pictures would be greatly appreciated as well. I am getting ready to do some kind of seat upgrade. That tired old bench seat just doesn't cut it anymore, especially these days after getting out of the wife's luxury car. I have a friend who has a 99-04 bodystyle truck, and I really like his, and I find them to be very comfortable. But I am not sure how easy they would be to adapt to my truck. I'm sure I could find some in the junkyard someplace, but I have no idea what I should pay for them. Anyone have a recommendation on a good seat for one of these trucks?

You can wrap a lot of coin into a seat and most are just OK IMO unless you go with the really high end.  I have sat in a bunch of seats and still prefer the stock bucket seats out the 89-91 Suburban with the dual armrests.  I got a nice pair for $75 with center console and bought the inner perches for $5.  They fit like a glove, not to high which is a common problem trying to fit an aftermarket set up in it unless you really spend some $$$.  My $.02

You can't beat the Qualitex seats for comfort and look.

I recovered a rear seat from a 3+3. Alot less wear, nice and firm. Feels like a new one.

I have an older custom seat (can't remember the name on it, it's in storage). It has buckets with a flip down console. The buckets are getting beat so I plan to put some blazer seats on it. The blazer seats are more comfortable.

These are the seats I'm using.

Thanks for the replies. Well what do you guys thing about my 99-04 silverado seats idea? After the brackets had been fully adapted, do you think they would fit in there well?

Dealer installed in '96 for $650.  I like having a flip up console w/ 3rd seat in case the whole family wants to ride. It's got arm rests too.

Those look nice. Got any idea of the model number or something? Are they still being sold today?

EDIT: This may be the modern day version
