Do you know where the casting number for the block is by chance? Right now the heads are off it.

On the block behind where the drivers side head would be. You'll see a ledge where the bellhousing bolts to. Clean the top of that off and you'll see the digits. Usually around 7 or 8 digits. I have a binder with numbers if you need reference. If it's a crate motor it may read "GM 5.7" or "GM 5.0.

Was looking around with these numbers and on www.nastyz28.com I got this(which doesn't make sense) :

V0910CHC

V=Flint
0910=Sep 10th
CHC=Suffix Code= 1975,76,80 350ci 210hp corvette motor.

But it says on the block GM 5.0L. Can anyone help me ID my motor, very confused now lol

Just found another site that says the same but also has a 307ci 115hp for the suffix CHC

Some of the numbers I have printed out are from that same website. Another good site is mortec.com.

When I got my 85 Sierra, the guy told that the motor was replaced with a crate. When I checked the castings, it read GM 5.0(305cid). I sort of assumed that all crate motors carried that similar casting. When I pulled the motor out of my k30 a couple of days ago, it read GM 5.7(350cid). I automatically assumed it was a crate. Maybe someone will chime in with a little more insite to these castings. I wonder if the later years(mid to late 80's) came with these castings from factory. It still wouldn't explain your findings though.

Where did you find V0910CHC? Was it on the engine boss in front of where the passenger side head was?

What is the engine boss?

It was on the front of the motor on passenger side where head is yes.

I call it a boss. It's that milled ledge where suffix codes are sometimes stamped behind the alternator.

Ok, according  to Mortec.com, our castings may not necessarily be crate motors. There should be a date code on the back near the casting or on the other side(passenger) of where the bellhousing bolts to.

Casting as in the "GM 5.0LG"? A 307ci is still a 5.0L (5.03083L). I dont know though, hopefully I'd find more info tomorrow
