decisions!
« on: August 14, 2010, 03:26:00 pm »
Right guys and gals > a bit of advice and suggestions please

As most of you know I'm now having to paint the truck myself, it's a bit like a big jigsaw at the moment.

Two questions : 1st, the truck will be orange and black, what colour do you suggest for the engine? The whole engine bay will be orange too, I'm thinking an orange engine is too much and a black engine would be boring!

2nd > when it's all back together, how much of the front panel (where the lights are) do you see? I've had mine shot blasted and its a little rough in places. Do I need to go mad making it super smooth 'cos it'll save rakes of time if you don't see most of it!!

cheers

I think a mostly chrome engine would look splendid in your engine bay, or maybe just paint it silver.

If your engine bay is orange a black engine with orange accessories would look slick. I would do the core support black.

Cheers Vile & da67goatman

would anyone have a pic of a '79 nose front on? I'd like to know how much of the core is seen with all the trim, grill etc fitted. I've flicked through the "rides" section but everyone takes a picky from an angle!

cheers

Cheers 1980C10 > that's just what I'm looking for! Apart from the top panel that the hood latches too there's very little core to be seen  :) That means it doesn't have to be perfect  ;)

Cheers guys, I think I might have to re-write the Johny Cash song {I sprayed it one piece at a time}  ;D

Heres some pictures of engine bays from a car show I went to...maybe it can give you some ideas/help

The orange block doesnt look bad at all.
Also my father has a 79 Chevy and you can barely see much behind the grill and trim, so like you said, you don't need to have many worries for that. Good luck with the project

Royal blue block & brackets with lots of chrome would be slick.

hey we're not that behind the times over here! I like a wide selection depends on what mood I'm in. When I do bodywork prep I'm into Michael Buble as it keeps me calm!!

If it's not an all out show truck, Paint everything behind the grille flat black and call it a day.  I never notice behind my grille unless im parked with the nose up pointed at the sun...

well, i gotta say Andy, for an island, you guys sure do put out some music.  Always been a Pink Floyd fan--David Gilmour's solo stuff is fantastic still.   Clapton's almost a good a guitar player as Gilmour  ;D  Must be something in the water out there that turns out great guitar players.

No, you guys aren't behind the times over there (actually you are ahead of us, say about 6 or 8 hours ahead  ;D)

Good luck w/ your truck

Grim, not so sure about the royal blue, the interior will be black & grey and the outside orange/black.

78 Chevyrado, cheers for the heads up on that, I've a small area of welding to do on it but I'll wack a couple coats shiny black over it and that'll do  ;)

SgtDel > Clapton is quality. Mr Simon Cowell has a lot to answer for over here! The TV show the X Factor has turned out a couple of good uns but some right toilet too!!
Also like a sing along to Robbie Williams but you guys didn't go that much on him!

Back to the truck, garage adorned with hanging panels in primer, dents filled and 2nd coat on just waiting for final rub down and the colour. I could do with the extra 6-8 hrs a night to be able to crack on with it!
