Hey guys I am new. I just bought a 79 and needs a little more body work but overall it's almost ready for paint. I was thinking maybe black with a white stripe on the hood or a metalic burgandy/red. If you guys couls send some pics of some neat paint I would love it thanks!!

c.a.r.c military olive drab. Oil based paint so it wont rust out like normal and it's really easy to cover up scratches

i know I'm probably going to get hammered and thrashed with this post, since i know most of you guys wouldn't touch your trucks by anything less then the best, and have extremely good paintjobs, BUT Ive seen some people use rustoleum, because its more "rust resistant" then other paints.... any comments?

There is nothing special about rustoleum... just a fancy buzzword trademarked name.  WD-30 helps resist rust.  Some paints are better than others but you get what you pay for.  The main key is the prep work.  It all depends on your budget and intended use.  A good etching wash primer followed by a good 2K epoxy primer for starters.  Then a good 2K primer surfacer which would be block sanded straight.  Then a good 2K primer sealer followed by whatever topcoat system you choose.  The best paint in the world is only as good as the base it is put on.  Most problems are from the inside out or repairs made were not done right.  I am not a body man nor paint cars, I just have worked in the paint field for 25+ years and the industries I serve need corrosion protecting which require salt spray and prohesion testing.  There are so many paint specs out there for different applications from immersion service, marine atmosphere, yacht to aerospace, jets, military.  Sorry if I get passionate sometimes but I had to throw in my $.02

zieg85 pretty much summed it up. It all starts with the prep work. I've never used rustoleum, I've only used PPG base/clear but when I paint my truck in the future, I'm using Dupont Nason. I can get it cheap and some friends of mine have done great work with it that has stood up for quite a while. I won't say that X brand is better than the other, because everyone has their own great results with something that somebody else thinks is garbage, but I will say that the best paint in the world won't last if the prep work is poor.
