454 project

Hello..I have a 81 Chevy C/20 regular cab long box, I just bought a 454 out of a 1975 motor home..This is my first project like this so I'm looking for some good advice from people..I got the motor stripped down to just the block and I'm ready to start building it. I'm shootin for 600+ hp and I'd like to stick to pumped gas. I plan on strokin it to a 496. What I'm looking for is some advice on the heads I'm gonna need to achieve the 600+..I've been told everything from 294cc intake runner size all the way up to 325cc, Oval port and rectangle port has been recommended...I need to get some good accurate advice on this..Ill probably go with Brodix or Dart..Can someone here help me out..?

If you are going aftermarket heads I like the Edelbrock performer rpm oval ports

Trick Flow now makes BBC heads in both oval and rect port.  I've heard they are very nice for the money.

What heads do you have now?

Look at your casting numbers.

If your head casting numbers end in 049, or 781, then you have some awesome GM factory heads capable of 700+ HP with port work, and larger valves with a hyd roller on 496ci.

I am making 550hp on 049s with stock ports, intake gasket match, 2.19in/1.88ex valves, and a solid flat tappet cam on 461ci.
