Need a measurement
«
on:

Well Some things didn't go as planned with some parts I ordered for my four link so I decided I'll use this time to make my C-notch. With everything apart I was hopin someone with a 73-80 frame could take a quick measurement for me. Anyone got time?

Where is the center of the axle in relation to this hole in the frame. This is the LH side of the frame.

Hey Vile, I went out and measured mine. I come up with 1" 5/16 I shot it with a lazer level off the center of the Axle. But granted my leaf springs are not hooked to the hangers, but the drive shaft is still intact.
Hope this helps.
Rob..

Rob, You mean you measured the center of the axle tube is 1 5/16" to the left of the hole?

I measured the Drivers side frame rail. It seems like that hole would be dead center of the Axle on a stock suspesion. The bump / load stop is directly below it. My Truck also has a six inch lift.

Thanks rob. Can anyone else drop a plumb bob or the like off the frame to the center of the axle before I start cutting?

Vile, I would be concerned with getting this measurement from something like a lifted 4x4. The axle centerline could be different depending on the rear suspension/mods. like going from below the spring to above, a lifted 4x4 would technically be back farther (if using a block) than a stock one. This could also be not "correct" if an angled block was used & which way it was installed on the truck being measured.
Also the measurement changes (moves ahead) as the weight comes off of the springs.
I realize the total amount it moves isn't huge, however if your starting fresh, it would be nice to be centered in the wheelwell.
I'm sure the setup your installing has some adjustment however once you start putting shocks, panhard bar, ect. the forward to backward amount really gets reduced without something being on a bind.
Here's a pic of mine, however it would be back slightly when it's on the ground.
Here's a link to the Alston site:
http://www.cachassisworks.com/Stories/HowCAC-009_WEB.pdf
The up & down oval hole they are using (showing 15" measuring to somepart on that level at the front of the housing?) measures 17 1/2" on my truck to the CENTERLINE of the housing, might be able to use this for double checking. Hope this helps, Lorne

Thanks, I decided to wait until I get the axle attached to links. Once I do that I'll jack the axle up high enough to mark it.
