4x4 Shifter

I just bought a 1984 4x4 and the 4wd shifter stick is missing or broke off.  I am not sure what it is supposed to look like to be able to tell if it is broke.  I kind of looks like it is.  The guy I bought it off of said that the previous owner let the truck sit for a while so he is thinking that the guy tried to force it into 4wd drive and broke the shifter.  He did say that the guy got under the truck and did something to put the truck in 4wd to show him that it worked.  Any thoughts on this and where I might find a new shifter?

What transfer case does it have? In another post didn't you mention that it's a 2wd cab? That would have the low hump. If it will work for you I have the shifter assembly from an 84 that had an np208.
I'm sure he went under and just manually moved the arm on the t-case to engage it.

What is the best way to confirm what transfer case it has?  I can look tonight.  I would be interested in your shifter assembly if it works for my truck.

You are correct, it is a 2wd cab.  Why do they have low humps?

2wd's have no transfercase so do not need high hump.

Look at the tag on the back of the case.

Do you just need a replacement piece for something that is broken, or are you missing a whole bunch of stuff because it was never converted over? Does the truck have a body lift in it or is the floor modified? Take some pics and find out what t-case you have. An 84 would most likely have an NP208 in it. Like Vile said find the ID tag. Also, if the housing is aluminum its a 208.

Supposedly the truck has a 4" lift on it.  I believe the truck the cab came off had a standard transmission and I know it was 2wd.  The reason I believe it was a standard tranny is becuase there is a patch on the hump covering a hole to the left of where the 4wd shifter goes.  I will take pictures tonight and I will see if I can find the ID on the transfer case.

So if I have a low hump then the only way that the transfer case will fit is if there is a body lift on the truck, is that correct?

To my knowledge, yes, unless the floor of the cab has been modified.

Unless the 203 and 205 rear tail shafts are interchangeable I have a 205 with the speedo cable on the drivers side like chuck shows for the 203 but mine is older pre 75 or something like that the tag is on the front of the transfer case

While I am trying to figure out how to post pictures here are the numbers on the back of the transfer case.  They were in two different spots.  Please help me identify which case I have.  I also took a picture of it but need to resize my pictures somehow.

Is the case aluminum? Also could you see what might be missing or broke while you were under there?

Irish_Alley - I do not know my shift pattern because I am missing the 4wd shifter.

I still am unable to determine what might be missing or broke as far as the 4wd shift lever goes.  Maybe the pictures might help you guys out.

While I was under the truck last night I noticed something that doesn't look right.  Look at the picture with the big gear with teeth.  What is that and should it be covered up?  It looks like it should have something to do with the tranny.  I am thinking a cover is missing.

Ok that gear is the flywheel and it should have a dust cover. But its ok. The transfer case is a 203 the sufficient paternal is
4x4 low lock
4x4 unlock
N
4x4 high unlock
4x4 lock
transmission is a th350 I think
