You could buy a new ignition switch(meaning the actual electrical portion mounted on the column, that the rod engages) and unplug the broken switch thats on there now and plug in the new switch leaving it hang loose under the column at your knees. Use a dull punch and slide the switch like the rod would and you can start and shut the truck of like it is meant to and not have to cut anything.
The cylinder (where you put the key) runs a rod that slides up and down the top of the column and has a 90degree bend at the bottom that sticks up into the electrical ignition switch that mounts to the top of the column down where your knees are. The rod slides the switch to the on position as well as the start or acc. positions. If there isnt anything wrong with this piece than just remove it from the column and work it with a small, dull punch. Of corse you have to drop the column down to access the switch so if your that far into it you may as well just swap the columns? Either way you can start and shut off the truck from inside and you do not have to hotwire it or cut your harness.
