body mount bolt kit
« on: January 12, 2011, 08:07:17 pm »
Why am I having such a hard time finding a cab mount hardware kit for my 85 K10?  I mean if they are so easy to brake....the cab bushings are all over the web but no hardware kits.  I know   has the bolts but why dont these places that sell bushings have hardware kits?  Anyone know of anyplace else besides  ?

Well,  geez thanks!   That sure beats the only other place I've been able to find them. ($139.00)

I guess that because it didn't have my model in the fitment tab that it wouldn't fit my K10?  It says C/25 C2500.

Obviously, ask Chris, he may be able to get them but otherwise checkout http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~partsort. $12.95 for the cab bolts, not too bad. I see some good prices on a few other small items. Just make sure that if you can you buy from the man footing the bill for this forum. Also, I don't know that I would use the polyurethane bushings as another member posted. They're harder and can cause softer/rusted metal to fail instead of the easily replaceable bushing.

Chris, who runs this forum, has a store. Click on the banner at the top of the page. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have those bolts though, it would be a courtesy to see if he has them and to look out for him. This is probably the best forum as far as these trucks go.

OK, so I finally got my cab mount kit for my 85.  All new bushings and hardware.  I sprayed penetrating oil 24 hours ago and its time to start the worst part of the whole thing.  Getting the old bolts out.  These are the ones with the head of the bolt underneath.  First question;  Is there a weld nut on the top side?  What if I break this weld nut?  Second question is what if I break a bolt, which I can tell is probably going to happen before I even start?  Will the weld nut hold it in place or can I just tap the bolt up into dead space?  I know this is a failry easy job, but living in Maine, nothing is simple when working with road salt and metal.

Give me a long enough lever and a place to stand, and I shall move the earth or break this bolt...Whatever, just hold my beer!

OK.  I cut a hole. It was easy to find the right spot because there was an indentation.  So....now I'm looking down on the tip of the bolt from inside the cab and I sprayed a pool of penetrating oil in the chanel.

When that happened on one of mine I knocked the nut retainer off with a chisel and welded a new nut down. Mine was one of the rear cab mounts when I was changing a frame. Also I didn't weld up the hole until it was all bolted down just in case the weld didn't hold. I didn't give myself quite enough room with the hole and it was hard to clean up before I welded it.
