Need some help where to start
« on: February 20, 2011, 08:13:58 pm »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sooo I have a 77 C10 and a 85 C10 stepside. Wanting to get both trucks redone. My 77 is basically done needs a paintjob and a new set of wheels. My 85 needs alot more work inside and out engine and suspension and everything. Where is a good place to start on either truck. I am really wanting to get the ball rollin on either one, tired of having both of those in the process but not done. Both have 350 and turbo 350 trannys. I am wanting both lowered and just bad  looking. Would love some ideas or any kinda of help to get me started I just need someone to point me in the right direction Please help!!!!!!!

If you trust your 85, I would finish the 77 first. Then you can completely focus on the 85.

The 77 is pretty clean, I'd prolly bag it and put some larger diameter wheels on it.  The stepper, just static drop it and call it a day.

It depends on where you will be doing the work I suppose. With the 85 I would remove the bed, cab, and drivetrain. Then clean up the frame, install the suspension, and engine. It will be very convenient to work on it with the cab and bed removed. Then focus on the bed and cab.

Bring me your 77 because a truck with 49er colors needs to be in Cali...especially in Santa Clara where the 9ers are moving...

lol ok ill drop my truck off for ya  ;D. I think im going to order a bigger cam for my 77 and just get it repainted and new wheels and be done with it. The stepside will probably be a ground up restoration to make it how I want it. Im just ready for these things to be done

Sounds like a good start. If your going to tear down the front clip to paint the 77, that will be the best time to do the cam swap since nothing will be in the way. Unless your thinking of pulling the engine to do it.

How about some bigger pics and more detail on what you want to accomplish. They look pretty clean from those baby pix.

fix the body rot issues and rough body work, tear it down, set up your suspension, put together your powertrain, Install the fresh new looking body, put in the interior and drive. You should have it done in about a 1/2 hour or so  ;)

Whatever you do, make sure the step-side bed has some nice stained wood and chromed strips! Remember, that bed makes that rig what it is, those cabs are on everything. Go for one of those 'changes in the light' kinda paint jobs, lots of pearl in it.

Also, if you want the looks, put on some smoke stacks! Turn her into a little red wagon, but better, because yours wears a bow-tie!

Here is a great example of the bed.
