Valve spring question
« on: February 23, 2011, 01:55:25 am »
Surely a newbie question but trying to get all the right parts ordered for my build.

I have new heads that support a .520 lift. Valve springs and retainers included. As long as my cam selection does not exceed that amount of lift, I don't have to order new springs correct?

You need to multiply the cam lobe lift by your rocker ratio to determine the true lift at the spring. I would still mock up a solid lifter, pushrod and rocker and spin the motor one revolution to verify if the spring is binding.

Valve springs need to meet the cam manufacturers specifications as well as be installed at the correct specifications.
