supposed to go out tonight and now this...need help

just went to start the truck. just had it inspected for the first time after the rebuild so I am pumped to take it out for the very first time tonight..... get home try to start the truck and it start super hard like it doesn't want to but evently does, than stalls again over and over, i than notice it blowing black smoke really bad. get out of the truck take off the breather and notice that gas is coming form the vacum outlet on the side of my carb..... i mean there is a steady stream. not just a little. it covered the top of my intake. So right now I left it alone and cam in to get ready to go out tonight. Was supposed to take the truck and everybody was looking forward to see it. Is this thing just flooded or what. Truck worked awesome last night when I took it around the block......please help.. should mention it is a quadrajet and a 305 ...thanks

I'm not looking at one now or anything, but vacuum on the side of a quadrajet?  Where exactly?

this would be the largest one in the front, comes off on a bit of a angle.

Sounds like it's flooding. What are you running for a fuel pump? If you don't have excessive fuel pressure try tapping the side of the carburetor, the float may be stuck. If that doesn't do the trick pull the air horn off of the carburetor, check the float-make sure it's not burned, make sure the float level /drop is set correctly. Check the needle &  seat.

dont remember the name of the pump, I dont know how to do all the other things you said. I had the carb re built awhile ago. i will try tapping the side of the carb

Is it a mechanical pump? Is it stock?

i replaced the pump, just a plain jane run of the mill pump. Just went back out and tried it again, it will start and flood itself out, still pouring out of the front vacum line port. Running just like a tap turn on.....it about 5 seconds the top of the intake is over flowing

also tried tapping on the side ....nothing. if i beat it any harder i will break the carb

K guys not sure what's up, took card off looked it all over put it back in! Works great. Have no idea what I did but all seems good for now. That's again Off on its first trip!!!! Yew haw!!!

guessing it was a stuck float like you had mentioned earlier.

ok got the truck home, it seems to work out but definetly have a problem with the carb. I am ideling at 1300 rpm and when i tun the truck off it tries to stay running. All of this just seem to happen today up till today everything worked great. any ideas on what I should do now?
