You will need to tell us more about what you are doing...3 series & 4 series? Did you change the ring & pinion?
The problem at this point is: Do you know where the .042 difference is? If it's all from the ring gear mounting face to the Right side, you will likely need to remove thickness from the Right shim pack, however if it's some here & some over here...you will likely need to subtract some from each side. There are quite a bit of variables in what your working with. As Vile mentioned, you should have some specialty tools & varying thickness shims. Reider Racing had some nice sandwich style shims that you take apart & insert the thin shims in the center, making it MUCH easier to get them in...I believe they went out of business though, maybe someone else makes the same idea. The "spell Check" button will make it a little easier to sort out what your trying to do, which will result in more accurate answers more quickly. Good Luck, Lorne
