th350c rebuild
« on: April 04, 2012, 10:48:48 pm »
i think i have a th350c trans .there it a plug on the driver side above kickdown .i never knew it had a lockup and don't really know if it was even hooked up .my question is whats it for ?do i need it hooked up ?how do i hook it up ?does it function differently than a th350 ?for instance putting my trans in 1and standing on it will it auto shift to 2 or will i have to manual shift it .also how will this lock up work with a 2500 stall .

If I remember correctly (if not someone will correct me), the C version was the electronic lock up version so it could lock in a gear, if you put it in first it stays in first.  The 1 thing I am not positive is if there was a rev limit on it, so if you over rev'd it, it would shift and not hurt the trans.
Someone else will chime in I am sure.

I don't know much about th350c's, but the lockup torque converter will help a lot with fuel economy.  It eliminates slip when you don't need slip (cruising in 3rd).  Working properly, you don't have to do anything different when driving.  It has nothing to do with your transmission changing gears.  If you can get what you have working or verify that its working, you just need to make sure to get a tc that is compatible.

ok that confirms it them ,i can't find the mv4 and other codes on the trans to confirm that its a th350c but i do have a plug with 3 wires running to it .i have to admit im kinda fustrated now because i have the lock up .my cam(howards 180305-08 ) calls for a 2500 stall ,but the lock up tc cost almost 2x what non lock up does .never knew there was a such thing as a 350c. found that out after i bought the cam and was about to get the tc .whats the down side to not getting the 2500tc with this cam

Thank you for the picture.  I actually had that trans in my 85C10 that 2nd gear was out... (and didn't know it) now a 700R4 is in there.
