did i get bad fuel from a station?
« on: April 10, 2012, 02:02:06 pm »
I'm suspecting I got bad fuel from a local station a couple weeks back in my 94. It was sputtering, smoking black, smelled awful, and would stall after sitting at a light. I topped it off at Shell and it cleared right up for the most part. The problem I'm having is when i put fuel in the last 2 times it'll smoke the first few times I start it and still has a slightly bad smell to the exhaust. What should I do? just let it keep burning the fuel thats left? Or could it be something else? thanks.

94 chevy 1500. 305. No loss of power. Only noticable miss is right when I take off at stop sign or light. After that miss its fine, just smells like its burning garbage fuel(my guess)

Pull the vacuum hose off the EGR valve and see if it clears up.

Are you saying when you had the EGR off, the spring and seat in it did not move back and forth freely from the above statement ?  If so your EGR valve is bad, when taken off you should be able to move the plunger back and forth with your finger easily.
Also check the tube and intake for blockage (passages should be clear).

It moves freely. I meant that when I push the plunger in and cover the inlet hole it holds the plunger up. I was told that was a way to test it

well i changed the fuel filter(was due) and it helped slightly. My brother had an egr solenoid around so I tried it after hearing some of the responses. Runs perfect now. Thank you for all the help
