temp and oil pressure gauges not working

when I bought my truck about a week ago, the temp and oil gauge are not working.  they just sit there.  where would I begin to diagnose the problem? kind of a newbie at this.  thanks ya all

     There is a thread on checking the gauges in the tech section by bd I believe.  You can start there, then I would check the sending units to make sure both are good and possibly that they are indeed hooked up and the wiring is good ( not shorted or cut, etc. etc ).
#1: The easiest and most obvious solution to any problem is 99% of the time correct.
#2: There is no such thing as impossible, it just takes longer.

Considering everything is hooked up properly and you have electric sending units; You can just take a wire and ground out your sending units..
If they top out; then your sending unit is bad..
Otherwise it's your gauge.
