Well it is finally coming together. I was worried about the welds on the frame. I am glad you are addressing that issue. I bet it was really eye opening and probably a lot depressing when you discussed it with a professional welder.
You are very lucky to have a team as most of us are on our own. That is just the way it is for most of us. I wish I lived closer so I could come over and help you out.
You have to look at it as getting one step closer every time you get something done. I am really interested in seeing the steps you are having made. Please show some really good, close up pics of them when you get them.
As far as security goes, I agree with you. It is way to easy to steal one of these trucks. Here are some ideas that I have been looking at.
I have seen a locking collar advertised that fits over the column. That might deter the amateurs. I would also put in a battery disconnect switch that requires a key or touchpad. This would be hidden. And the best idea yet is to hardwire a smartphone into a constant hot wire and hide it in the dash. You can use a tracking app to track that phone. Even if someone steals it, it can be tracked via cellphone. This will help you get your truck back ASAP.
You have to remember that some thieves now are very slick. They are using wreckers to pick trucks up and steal them. And within minutes it is gone. If I could even find a locking boot for the tire, I would put it on too. This sounds like overkill but you have to remember how much it cost you to build it in the first place. It would be hard to replace. I hope this helps.
