Good deal? Worth the money?
« on: July 22, 2014, 04:51:06 pm »
I found a 1979 Chevy custom deluxe k10 4 speed on the floor. Bald tires had the dual gas tanks only has one now. No tailgate or rear bumper cracked window and rusted to heck. Guy also said it has minor mechanical issues.

I'd offer scrap price, maybe slightly more if there were parts you really wanted or needed for another truck

First off welcome to the site.
You forgot to mention what part of the country you were from, that makes a difference in what shape a truck is normally found.  In CA. where I live that would be worth nothing because I can find rust free trucks all day long, but somewhere where everything is rusted, it might be worth more.
Second you forget to mention what he wanted for it.
Supply and Demand also is different in each market.  Since your on the demand side, how bad do you want it ?

Rusted out, bald tires, one tank, missing body parts, mechanical issues, cracked glass, sun visor... Meh

The bigger question is does the radio work?  :P

Seriously, in additionto where the truck is physically located, "worth the money" would also depend on what you're going to do with it.

If you want to build a show truck or a rust free dependable daily driver, you could probably find a better truck to start off with (parts & labor invested= money invested).

If you just need a running 4x4 to use as a feed truck and you get it for a few hundred dollars, then it is probably worth the money.

The truck is from Ohio most trucks older than 10 years have rust on them. I'm just looking for a truck that I cans drive around here and the 4x4 for mud and the snow.

And again you still don't post the price so no one can actually answer your question.....

My internal scrap-o-meter predicts its worth $537 at the scrap yard. As long as you pay less than $537 your safe.

Alot depends on engine and how well it runs.  Does the 4X4 still work?

i'm thinking no more than $700.

i would go for less than scrap, maybe $100 less just to take the eye sore off his property and that covers the gas it would cost to haul it away.

He checked in 2 days after the initial post, don't think he liked what everyone had to say.

imo a grandpas truck is worth fixing, just because of the sentimental value
