PO 442 code 2002 GMC Envoy, can't figure it out?

Can anyone shed some light?  I've checked every hose I could find and changed the gas cap.  The reset lasts 3-4 cycles but comes back.  Changed the gas cap as well.  I am out of ideas so I am reaching out to y'all.

Thanks, I had found another on the same site but didn't read about a cracked tank like this one.  This truck only has 30K miles

evap canister vent solenoid and usually you want to replace the purge valve with it - that should do it

It's possible you have a vent solenoid that is either venting when it's not supposed to or not venting at all. Do you have access to any type of diagnostic scanner? Just just a code reader but one with output functions? This way you can test it to see if it has failed, if it is bad then you can replace it. If you have access to a scanner I can walk you thru testing the code. Replacing the purge valve along with the vent solenoid is NOT necessary or required. If only 1 part has failed there is NO reason to replace 2 parts. Here at the dealer, we have never replaced both just because 1 of them failed.

A simple rule applies here, "don't fix what ain't broke".

Thanks, I have an intermediate scanner.  The code was set at 1298 rpms, 38 mph and the temp was 198.  It is my brothers truck and my scanner.  I cleared the code and when it comes on again I will copy down all the parameters.  Thanks

Ok cool. We will have to wait and see what you get with your scanner. If it comes back again. What scanner do you have? Name, model, how old is it?

Scanner is in the garage, it is a Craftsman about 5 years old and it was the middle of the road model.  I have the manual with the model #.  I will get that info when I the code comes up again.

gm in thoes years are notorious for vent solenoid problems. idk how or why but they tent to get stuck open. a friends tahoe and another friends crew cab had the same problem once they replace them theyre usually good for sometime but sometimes they come back

You might check with GM for an updated vent solenoid,they have one for trucks.
What happens is thet get full of dirt\dust and cant seal.The new style comes
with a different valve and filter.You need to get about 10 feet of 5\8 heater hose
 and locate filter above trans using tie wraps

Silly question maybe, but can they be cleaned/blown out with air?

No, don't do this, they can become pressurized and explode like a hand grenade. I've seen it happen, it's not pretty.
