GAS TANK REPLACEMENT

I need to replace the driver side gas tank in my 1986 Chevrolet K10 350 4x4. What is better? Metal or Plastic? Do I need rubber or some other type of cushion to prevent rubbing from the brackets?

ive only seen metal replacement tanks. and yes put some sort of anti squeak straps on the tank, two on the bottom and two on top

I know that I just mean do I need some type of rubber or something to prevent the metal on metal vibration from crating leaks

I bought a poly tank from JC Whitney.  Was a great replacement IMO

IIRC the factory used ~1/8" thick, asphalt infused, felt-like paper strips between the tank, saddles and straps to help alleviate rattles, squeaks and metal-to-metal abrasion.  The paper was treated to help ensure adequate service life.

I have a poly tank sitting upstairs in my garage but I have yet to put it on anything. I'll be putting a custom aluminum tank on my 74.  The metal tanks are cheap and readily available and as Irish said, use the insulators between the tank and the straps. You can paint the tank too for protection from rust.

Use metal, but coat it "chassis coat" it will last a 1000 years rust free!
